Will of King Alfred the Great, (dated about 888) includes bequeaths to his nephews Æthelhelm and Æthelwold: "And to Æthelm, my brother's son, the Manor at Ealdingburn, and at Cumtune, and at Crundell, and at Beading, and at Beadinghamme, and at Burnham, and at Thunresfield, and at Æsceng. And to Athelwold, my brother's son, the Manor at Godelming, and at Gyldeford, and at Stening." [**It is important to note that Alfred did not identify Æthelhelm as 'Ealdorman', there were other men in his will identified as such but he did NOT identify Æthelhelm in such a manner; ALSO Wiltshire was NOT one of the properties bequeathed to Æthelhelm] |
