His origin is uncertain, but he is perhaps one of the sons or grandsons of Robert , a mayor of the palace of Clotaire III .

He is surely the maternal grandfather of the Frankish king Pepin the Short , but also the ancestor of Robert I of France , founder of the family known as the Robertians , who would later give rise to the Capetian dynasty . He is therefore perhaps a cognatic ascendant of the Carolingians , but also a direct ancestor of the Capetians .

Lambert af Hesbaye blev født i 665[1] og døde sandsynligvis i 741. Han nævnes som greve af Haspengouw i 706 og var adelsmand i det frankiske aristokrati. Han var sandsynligvis far til Robert I af Haspengouw og Landrada.

Hans oprindelse er usikker, men han kan have været en af sønnerne eller barnebørnene til Robert, en borgmester i paladset Clotaire III.

Han er helt sikkert morfar til den frankiske konge Pepin den korte, men også forfader til Robert I af Frankrig, grundlægger af familien kaldet Robertians, som derefter vil give det kapetianske dynasti.
