6. [GARDOLF . Regino names "Gerolfum et Gardolfum comites Fresorum", sent by "Godefridem" as legates to the emperor after Hugo, son of King Lothar, rebelled in 885[208]. The relationship, if any, between the two counts Gerolf and Gardolf is not known but it is possible that they were brothers or otherwise closely related. "Otto…imperator augustus" donated property "insule…in Almere Urch…in comitatu Ekberti comitis" previously held by "Gardolfus iam quondam comes" to Kloster St Pantaleon, Köln by undated charter, included in the compilation with other charters dated early 966[209]. Gardolf was presumably the same person as the supposed brother of Gerolf.]
