TEXT:
"In the name of God Amen. I Richard Younge of Methwold in the County of Norfolk, Gentl., being of sound in mind & pfect memory God be praised therefore the fourteenth Day of May in ye yeare of reigne of our sovereigne Lord Charles ye Second by the grace of God of England, Scotland, Ffrance & Ireland, Kinge defender of ye faith And in ye yeare of our Lord Christ 1679 revoking all other wills by me made doe make this my last will and testam. in manner & forme followinge first I commend my soule into ye hands of Almighty God my most, most mercifull father trusting in him through the merritts & mediation of Jesus Christ my Saviour to have remission of my sins my body to be buried in christian burial ___ ____ my worldly goods & Estate I dispose thereof as follows.
--First I give and bequeath unto Dianah my beloved wife during the terme of her (natural) life all my messuages or tenement wherein I now live in Methwold aforesd. with ye yards, orchards, gardens, malthous, barnes, stables, cartshedes and other houses there unto belonging.
--And alsoe all those my Arrable lands which were heretofore John Young, my grandfather lying on ye north side of a way called "Thetford way" in ye feilds of Northholme, Northfield, Harvest holme & Mundford way shift in Methwold aforesd.
--And alsoe three acres & three roods of land in great Southfield which is mentioned in ye survey on feild b___ in name of Robt. Shinfield conteineing together by estimation fifty acres & upwards which was ye lein of all joyntures dowerythirds & in discharge of all bills or bonds by me formerly interred (?) & from & after ye decease of ye said Dyanah my wife I give & bequeath all my sd. lands & messuages , tenemts. & premises unto Ralph Younge & his heires forevr. but if he dye without issue of his body then all my houses & lands to him demised or given to returne to ye testator or his heires & shall then liveing forevr.
--Alsoe I give unto my son Ralph & his heires forevr. two acres of pasture called "Homebricke Hoses" formerly John Younge my grandfather, and alsoe one other Hose thereto Adjoyning called "Gorbolds Hose" provided that my son Ralfe shall pay or cause to be pd. unto Abigail my dafter the sume of one hundred markes within one yeare next after my decease but if my son Ralfe shall neglect or refuse to pay to my dafter Abigail Younge the sume of one hundred marks appointed in this my will then I doe give the aforesd. 2 pastures _____ of holmbrich & Garbolds Hose unto Thomas Younge my son & his heires forevr. he paying unto his sister Abigail Younge the sume of one hundred markes within one yeare & after my decease but if default of paymt. shall be made of one hundred marke or my ___thereof contrary to this my will then my will & mind is that my dafter Abigail shall enter into ye said Hoses her & her heires make sale of ye same & sattisfy to her selfe the said one hundred marks & intrest & charges to be incurred for ye same, rendring to my son Willm. Younge & his heires ye surplus of ye mony which shall be or remaine of ye said Hoses.
--Alsoe I give & bequeath unto Thomas Younge my son & his heires forevr. one tenemt. or messuage in ye low greene wherein one Edmund Davy & Willm. Piper now liveth, with the pasture & Arrable thereto belonging.
--Alsoe I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Young & his heires forev. one Rose of pasture & hempland called "Blu mand" late Richard durrington's in Methwold
--And Alsoe two stalls in ye marked place aforesd.
--Alsoe I give unto my son Thomas Young & his assnes my Colledge Lease holden of Chris__ Colledge in Cambridge But if my son Thomas Younge Dye without issue of his body then I give the aforesd. tenemt. & pastures & Colledge Lease unto Willm. Younge my son & his heires forevr. & if Willm. dye without issue then unto my next heires then liveing.
--Alsoe I give unto Willm. Younge my son one Hose called "new hose" to him & his heires forevr.
--Alsoe I give unto my son Willm. Younge & his heires forevr. all those my Arrable plow lands lying in the feilds of Methwold & Ffeltwell that my late father purchased of one Mr. Drury Dent but if Wm. Young my son Dye without issue of his body or before he attaine to ye age of one & twenty yeares then my will & mind is and I doe give all the pasture & Arrable lands to Willm hewin before Demised unto Thomas Younge my son & his heires forevr. And if Thomas my son Dye then to my next heires then liveing.
--Alsoe I give unto my Daughter Dyanah Younge one hundred markes to be pd. her at her age of one & twenty yeares to be payed out of my sevall Estate And to be pd. by my Executor hereafter named.
--Alsoe I doe give unto ye poore of ye pish [parish] of Methwold the sume of twenty shillings to be distributed at my buriall.
--I alsoe give unto Thomas Chilvers my Servt. six shillings eight pence.
--I alsoe give unto Mary Winter, my sister And unto my Cozen Osbert Witherell each of them a ring of gold to ye value of ten shilligs apeece.
--I alsoe desire my Cozen Osbert Witherel to be supvisor of this my will And to be an assistant to my Exetor. hereafter named but my will & meaning is that my Exores. shall Enter a sufficient bond to my suppvisr. for the paymt. of all such debts as I doe owe at ye time of death & to pforme all legaces (as herein bequeathed).
--Alsoe my will & meaneing is that my loving wife Dyanah Younge shall give sufficient release or discharge in law unto Thomas Yonge & Willm Young my two sons for all thirds & dowers
I doe make and apoint my sd. loveing wife & my sd. son Thomas Younge Exers. of this my will in witness whereof I have to this my will written set my hand & seale the day & yeare first above written. ---Richard Younge
(Sealed subscribed published & declared in ye presence of Osbert Witherell, the mark of John Young, Thomas Paine) . .
CODICIL:
This third & twentieth day of March 1685 I Richard Younge of Methwold in ye County of Norf. haveing since yeares late past made a Will & testamt. which I doe hereby further confirme but whereas____that sd. will & testamt. formerly by me made there__ ___ bequest & disposal made therein of that estate in Methwold since I purchaced of Mr. Wm. Perke & now in ye occupation of Mr. Thomas Swift I therefore doe hereby give & bequeath the sd. house & tenemt. with all its appurtenances to my 2nd son Tho. Younge & to his hieres forevr. And to my eldest son Ralfe Young & his heires forevr. I likewise give & bequeath my three pasture Hoses in Methwold aforesd. called "Hornebridge Houses" these my two bequests above mentioned I Richard Young being of pfect memory God be praised though sicke in body doe hereby order & appoint to be annexed to my will & testamt. formerly made as a ______ & to thereof in witness where I have hereunto sett my hand & seale the day & yeare first above written. --The marke of Richd.
