Notes

Note from my Great Grandmothers story:
Note from Mark Anderson from family records:

James fought for the British during the Revolutionary War. Ingrea and James had secretly married. The British were pushed back into Canada by the Americans in 1775. When this happened, Ingrea told her parents about her marriage to James. Ingrea's parents encouraged her to follow James to Canada and she did. I am almost positive that there was only one time during the Revolutionary War that the British were pushed back into Canada and that was in the year 1775. Had James been born in 1765 or 1770, he wouldhave been a British Soldier and married to Ingrea at 10 or 15 years old. If James was born in 1757, he would have been around 18 years old in 1775. This makes more sense to me when it comes to James.

William Henry Anderson said that James and Ingrea managed to have a fairly large family even though they traveled a lot across the water. Meaning they traveled to England and back to Canada on numerous occasions.
William Henry Anderson listed 8 children in all belonging to James and Ingrea. One of them named William. I believe this William belonging to James and Ingrea was the witness to William Longfield Dowde Jr's marriage to Ellen Julia Read in England.

Note from my Great Grandmothers story:

So now the interesting bit. In one of Ingra Cushing stories she told me she was named after a relative of William George Longfield Dowde and about a baby girl whose father was killed by Indians who raided their small holding in Canada. The little baby girl survived as she was hidden in an apple barrel by her father who was then killed by the Indians. The Indians threw the apple barrel in the river not knowing the baby was inside and it went over a waterfall and smashed open with the little baby girl stillin it. People found her in the river. Catherine Clara Dowde had four girls called Catherine Ingra Cushing in honour of the baby girl who lost her dad, but they all died before growing up. William Longfield Cushing then had my aunt Ingra Agnes Cushing (her mother was Agnes) but her grandfather called her Catherine Ingra. I thought this was just a fantasy BUT I had the same story from other family sources for totally dfiferent lines.

So reading this note added to an Anderson tree is interesting: "Some years ago I found a reference in correspondence from his superior office which stated Adam House was killed by Indians whilst clearing land and which also stated he left a wife and very young baby. Unfortunately I mislaid the reference and try as I might, I have not been able to locate it. It is there somewhere in the correspondence if anyone would care to search. I am still looking for it. When I find it, it will be obvious to all he was Diana''s Haltzclaw's first husband. "
